I had the brisket with beans and slaw and it was great. Prepared perfectly and spot on with spiciness. Mac even came out to check in his guests. I like visiting places where I can see the owner working on premise. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Definitely stop here on your way to Mount Rushmore or for a lunch stop riding through the hills. You will not be disappointed.

We smelled this place from the 1880 train on our way to hill city from keystone. Smelled so good that when we got back to keystone we hopped in the car and drove to hill city to Mac's. We were not disappointed. It tasted as good as it smelled! I had the brisket basket with coleslaw and French fries. My husband had prime rib sandwhich. We both thought the bbq sauce was excellent (wish Mac bottled and sold it!). Mac came out to greet us and was super friendly...as was the rest of the staff. Don't miss out on this place!! Definitely worth the stop.

Outstanding little BBQ place! Walked in and was immediately greeted with enthusiasm. I was recommended the beef brisket and it was delicious! Hill City, SD is a beautiful little town and if you're here, stop here to eat.

Let me start with how nice and friendly the service was. My daughter loved the coleslaw which was tangy and delicious. Sadly, this is the worst barbecue I have ever eaten. The ribs tasted like liquid propane. The fried chicken was tasteless and inedible. My daughter had the pulled pork sandwich and she said it was just as bad. I am from the NY metropolitan area and believe these reviews were written by locals who do not know what good food tastes like.

I would definitely recommend! I went here with 9 other people and ordered the brisket sandwich and it was really good! Toasted buns and 2 kinds of bbq sauce to choose from. You get 2 sides to choose from and one of which is baked beans, which I am very picky about, that were very good! If you don't like barbecue then they also have a few other options to choose from. A small mom and pop place but good quality food for a good price! They do homemade Rice Krispie bars and also have some ice cream for dessert.

Great place to eat! Hospitality was great and the food even better! Grilled chicken sandwich melts in your mouth and the brisket smoked right out back just as good! Highly recommend this place!

Absolutely love this restaurant! I travel to another town simply to see friendly face and enjoy amazing food! Mac has the "magic touch" that creates the most flavorful of foods! I am so happy to see this business expand and thrive at their location in Hill City. This is the place that friends and family would HAVE to try when visiting the Black Hills!

The best barbecue food we've eaten. And we are from NYC so definitely have had our fare share of bbq. The ribs, brisket, beans, and barbecue sauce are all amazing. Wish we could bring Mac back to NYC with us.

After reading the reviews, we decided to stop at Mac's. The prime rib sandwich was excellent! Also, Mac needs to add the chicken Philly to the menu, it was amazing! It was grilled to perfection and tasted wonderful! The fries were okay, but the beans were great. The food took a little while, but it was worth the wait! If I had a suggestion it would be to add fresh brewed ice tea. The staff was very friendly and stopped by multiple times to check on us, including Mac himself.

We were so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at Mac's. After one too many diner-fare restaurants that are so plentiful in South Dakota, we loved the fresh, bright, and flavorful bbq offered here. None of the meat was fatty, junky or processed. Amazing to find REAL food!! My daughter couldn't stop raving about the marinated chicken sandwich and my husband and I loved the luscious Kansas style bbq sauce we drizzled over the pulled-pork sandwiches. The tangy cole-slaw and sweet baked beans offered a nice counterpoint to the spicy sauce. Well done to the owners! We are picky eaters and don't give compliments lightly. Offer a gluten-free bun and you'd send us over the moon. Best success to such a great little sandwich spot.

This little hole in the wall restaurant has the best BBQ I've had in a long time. I ate the smoked prime rib sandwich and it was delicious. It wasn't over done or had anything weird. Just good ole BBQ. The prices were great too. A great place to come when you have a crowd to feed.

Philly cheese steak sandwich is delicious! Caramelized onions and veggies were cooked perfectly and beef was super tender! Prices are great and atmosphere is great for families! Wait time is next to none and the owners are very friendly! Very clean as well

If you are looking for a place to eat great smoked bar b q this would be it. Service was great and helpful. The pulled pork and brisket sandwiches were really good with no fat. Plus the prices were very reasonable.

Service was excellent! My pulled pork sandwich had good flavor - ask for the house BBQ sauce. Kids meals were a bit limited - hamburger about breakfast sausage sized. Fries were tasty.
